Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
Bosch is a premium brand that is known for its high-end refrigerators. The counter-depth French doors are integrated into your countertop to give it an elegant look. The fridges are quiet and efficient and include a smart-home feature that lets you control the fridge using your phone or tablet. The fridge also comes with plenty of storage space to store your leftovers and groceries. This model has an ice maker that makes fresh, filtered ice on the spot. It's also simple to use. The dispensers for ice and water are located inside the refrigerator, and not on the front. This way they don't ruin the elegant exterior. The dispensers can be used with any cold beverage, including sports drinks and juice. This refrigerator is constructed of a durable stainless-steel that resists scratches. It's fingerprint-resistant, too. If you're worried about smudges appearing on your surfaces, use an item that cleans fingerprints with no harsh chemicals.
This refrigerator is spacious with 20.5 cubic feet of space inside and includes Bosch's patented FarmFresh System featuring four cutting-edge freshness technologies to keep fruits, vegetables and leftovers in good condition for three times longer than average. The freezer's temperatures are close to perfect, too, not varying by more than a fraction an inch from the ideal.
While the Bosch refrigerator is pricier than the GE Appliances model, it has more features that make it worth the extra money. It comes with a door-in-door storage space, which allows you to store some food items in a bin that can fit inside the door of the refrigerator and also has a convertible drawer with five temperature settings that are designed to hold different kinds of beverages food items, snacks, meat and wine. The Bosch refrigerator also comes with a smart-home feature known as Home Connect, which allows you to control it remotely using your phone or tablet.
The only downsides to this fridge are its thin main drawer and the difficult-to-use main door latch on the right. The fridge is a great option for kitchenettes and single households that need more space than a French-door refrigerator can offer. The stainless steel finishes any kitchen beautifully.
LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
LG counter-depth refrigerators have a lot of storage in small footprints. They're also priced less than many standard-depth French door refrigerators and remove the necessity for a separate, smaller under-counter freezer. The LG Smart Mirror InstaView Counter-Depth Refrigerator (LMWC23626S), which offers the capacity of a standard refrigerator with a sleek and modern design, isn't an exception. It also features an internal dispenser that allows for easy access to filtered drinking water.
This model's exterior showcases a fingerprint-resistant stainless steel finish and a mirrored InstaView panel that adds to the modern look of the interior. The door bins have plenty of space and the top shelf can be folded to create a half depth shelf that can accommodate larger items. The bottom of the fridge has a set of more crisp drawers, and the full width deli drawer is ideal for meat and fresh produce.
A recessible ice maker is located on the back wall of the refrigerator. It helps to save space and makes it easier to store an extra bag of ice. The refrigerator uses a door-cooling system that utilizes vents in the fridge and freezer doors to push cold air into the refrigerator. It eliminates hot spots and keeps an even temperature throughout the refrigerator.
This LG refrigerator stood out during our tests. It offers ample space to serve a family, but we did notice a few irritating flaws. The drawers for the freezer aren't as cold as we'd like. The temperature of the middle drawer reached 41° during our peak use test, which is the temperature needed to freeze ice cream and other frozen foods. The temperature of the rest of the freezer remained around 36 degrees.
Another issue is that refrigerator doors have sunken handles on the inside and beneath, which make it hard for shorter people to comfortably close them. It may seem trivial however, we prefer front-mounted handles on refrigerators to make them easier to open and close.
The fridge is costly but it's worth it for anyone who wants an elegant appearance in their kitchen. We recommend this refrigerator for those who want to upgrade their existing refrigerator or for those who are building a brand new home and want a more integrated design in the kitchen.
Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The RF23M8090SG is Samsung's latest and fanciest counter-depth French door refrigerator that retails at $4,200. It's a good-looking model that boasts useful features like an autofill water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It also performs well in our cooling tests, though we're not fans of its plastic handles and the bins with a crisper design are a bit flimsy.
One thing that makes the RF23M8090SG apart is the Bespoke line which lets you personalize your fridge with removable colored panels that can be swapped when you're tired of the current ones. There are 11 color options that range from soft pastels to brighter hues and four metallic finishes. Some of these panels can be customized with text or photos making the fridge a personal feature that can be matched to your tie-dye Crocs, Rick Owens dress or Andy Warhol banana neon sign.
You can even alter the color of the fridge's LED lighting, which is a nice touch. The interior of the fridge is finished with a sophisticated finish that helps reduce smudges and makes cleaning easier. The only real drawbacks of the RF23M8090SG are its cramped beverage center, as well as a little learning curve to access the door-indoor feature that houses a water dispenser as well as the pitcher. You have to feel for an opening on the side of the door that is halfway across, and once you have it the lever, it opens an additional door inside the fridge that contains the docking station for the pitcher, the water dispenser and two shelves for drinks.
The 6.8 cubic feet freezer compartment is large enough to store a lot frozen food items. It also has an open drawer that allows you to access the food you need without opening the entire compartment. The freezer also features an ice-cream bin style compartment to store small items and a large capacity storage drawer to store larger frozen items. This drawer is lockable by using a password to ensure that any unwanted guests are kept out. It also comes with an LED that lets you see what's in it at an instant. The freezer can also monitor the energy consumption and help you reduce your energy bill by through the SmartThings Energy Mode.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
French door refrigerators give a sleek appearance to any kitchen and they fit well in different sizes of rooms. Counter-depth refrigerators are a great option if you're looking for this design, but without the added height. This model from Frigidaire that we've extensively tested, has received an above-average rating in our reviews due to its reasonable price and thoughtful features, such as an adjustable temperature drawer.
However, it also has a couple of nagging problems. Our test data indicates that the FGHB2866PF gets warm quite some in the freezer, and could get uncomfortable warm on the refrigerator's outermost shelving. This is evident in our heat maps which show how the interior temperatures fluctuate minute by minute. The butter bin in the orange region at the top right is especially warm during our test period. This might not seem too bad at first but it's a sign that the fridge spends a good portion of its time above 33 degrees.
It's worth noting that this model isn't Energy Star certified, which could be important to certain buyers. The main issue is that the fridge isn't a great choice. It lacks advanced features and is made of a slender, flimsy material, making it difficult to recommend it over better options at this price point.
In many ways, the Frigidaire is a stainless-steel version of a fridge that you might see at the local appliance store. It's a safe choice with a smooth finish that looks great and is impervious to smudges, but it does not make a lot of an effort to differentiate itself from other brands that have more features and more affordable.
If you're looking for a counter-depth French-door refrigerator but don't want to spend an excessive amount of money the FGHC2331PF might be worth considering. It has enough storage space for the majority of families, and does a good job of keeping food fresh. And even if it isn't an energy-efficient model, it doesn't come close to costing as much as our highest-rated models do.
